How it all began + my promise to you

I can’t believe it’s finally here: my first blog post on Primal Pioneers! Holy Moly, this project has been in the making for over two years!

It all started on a trip with my hubby Jelger, my friend Eve and me. The three of us took a trip to Oregon Coast, Crescent City. If you’re familiar with it, there’s “not much happening” there except for a lot of absolutely epic and powerful nature. Our entire trip existed of talking about life and experiencing that nature. It turned out that the three of us combined are very much in synch with each other and were at points in our lives where we’d experienced so much change and growth. One night, in our wood stove fired little airbnb, we started writing our Primal Pioneers manifesto.

The initial intention was to create a guideline to fall back on, when life would get in the way. Because it’s one thing to live life intentionally when on vacation and in an amazing place. But it’s of course a different story when you’re back to the daily grind and old patterns take over all of the good intentions. But it turned out there was so much more to it than just “create some guidelines”.

After our trip, we initially did slumber back into our routines, but after some online conversations and the brave decision from Eve to hop on a plane from Brussels to Vancouver, we met up again and this time with the clear goal to starting something bigger! We road tripped to a cabin – yes, it also had a wood stove 😉 – in the middle of nowhere Horselfy BC and started thinking about Primal Pioneers as a community and a movement!

All three of us have in very different ways overcome great challenges in life. And all three of us have experiences worth sharing. But most important of all: all three of us know how to relativise things and how to not take ourselves too seriously. I specifically wanted to mention this, because the last thing any of us wants is to come across as “absolutist preaching know-it-alls”. 😉

Our manifesto are the values the three of us have in common and that we truly believe makes us happier humans. So it’s our goal to spread those words when we can to the people it resonates with.

So what are you going to do?

I’ve been asked this question several times and the answer is A LOT. 😉 We’re going to share blog posts on topics we’re passionate about, we want to start a podcast by the end of the year, we’re going to share information about local people (artists, teachers, craftsmen, etc.) that we feel connected with etc. We’re going to recommend resources to you. And in the loooong run we want to host a retreat weekend. Oh and Eve will provide online mentoring services and Jelger’s writing an e-book. That’s just to start of it, so a lot, right?

Why am I (Tanja) part of it? Aka my commitment to you.

  1. I noticed that since changing my mindset from “being lived” to “conscious living”, my world turned upside down. I’d be beyond excited to know that someone would feel the same way by finding something on this site that resonates with that feeling.
  2. Primal Pioneers is going to push me out of my comfort zone! I want to practise what I preach. So part of that is to continuously improve my life and share with you what worked well and what didn’t.
  3. I’m especially fascinated by the influence of social media and by all issues related to body image. I can’t wait to dig in deeper with you (and with myself).
  4. I’m also excited to meet people that have excelled in connecting with what I’d refer to as “old knowledge”. Crafts passed on through generations, ways of processing foods etc. I’m so intrigued to see what’s “out there” and of course I want to share with you!

There you have it! This is how Primal Pioneers started and what my promises are to you! Thanks for joining us on this journey.
